WORLD WATER DAY!

Its World Water Day! We are big supporters of efforts in Africa to end the world water crisis and are going to do our part to help. We have started a website that will raise money (all year long!) for the building of a well in one of the highly affected areas, like Sudan, Uganda or Sierra Leone.

Without your voice, in your community, this wouldn’t be possible. So to better celebrate World Water Day, why not take a moment to invite someone new to the story?

Visit our water website to donate to the cause! This will be up all year so check back for updates! DONATE NOW!

6 Ways to Celebrate World Water Day

So what else can you do to help celebrate our most precious natural resource, L.A.? Below are a few local events as well as another celebrity-driven water campaign that are all begging for your involvement.

Drylands Exhibition Opening: World Water Day - Thursday, March 22, 6pm-9pm
The “Drylands Design” exhibition opens tonight at the A+D Museum in collaboration with the Aridlands Institute. Designers were poised to meet the challenge of “re-thinking water use, particularly in the face of climate change.” Featuring work by architects, landscape architects, engineers and urban designers, the exhibition focuses on the U.S. West. Admission is $10 general, $5 students and free for A+D members.

UCLA 4th State of Water Symposium - Thursday, March 22 & Friday, March 23
UCLA will host the symposium in connection with the 4th State of Water: From Macro to Micro exhibition at CoCA Torun at the California NanoSystems Institute. The two-day event features prominent keynote speakers, Q&As, demonstrations and student performances. Kicking off today at 12pm, Thursday’s event goes until 7:30pm. Reconvening at 10am on Friday, the symposium wraps at 2pm.

Community Sustainability Workshop: WaterWorks - Saturday, March 24, 9am-1pm
Head to Coldwater Canyon Park with TreePeople to “find out how to harvest rainwater and see how water works to help us create a more sustainable environment… right in our own backyards!” The workshop is free, but registration is mandatory.

World Water Day LA - Sunday, March 25, 9:30am-3:30pm
The Natural History Museum will celebrate water this Sunday with an invitation to “meet the organizations that are helping to protect Los Angeles’ sustainable water future and learn how you can become a voice for water by getting involved in your community.” The day will be packed with fun activities and interactive displays for all ages, including a workshop hosted by TreePeople from 1pm to 4pm. The workshop, EarthWorks, is free with museum admission.

The UNICEF Tap Project
Now in its sixth year, the UNICEF Tap Project returns to celebrate “the clean water we enjoy on a daily basis by encouraging celebrity, restaurant, volunteer, corporate, and government supporters to give this vital resource to children in developing countries” via numerous fundraising and volunteer activities. The concept is simple: “When You Take Water, Give Water.” The world is asked to pay at least $1 for the tap water they usually enjoy for free at participating restaurants from March 19 through March 25. Musician Lenny Kravitz asks the world to join the global campaign by donating money to the project. In return, donators will score a free Kravitz mp3.

Our Next Event is Coming!

Mark your calendars, its time for our first fabulous event of the year! We will be helping out an incredible organization called CAST, which is dedicated to ending world slavery and human trafficking. CAST begins all their outreach and policy initiatives by engaging and empowering actual slavery survivors in order to create a system that actually advances human rights from the source. Check out their website for more information on ways to help but most importantly, don’t miss the event!

The event will be on MARCH 28TH at Monty Bar in downtown… so make sure to get your tickets on our official website: http://sypla.org/event/detail/12

Can’t wait to see you all there at 8pm!
